FOTD -- November 20, 2008   (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

NEW FORMULA ALERT!

Today's image was created with a new formula, the DivideBrot5Julia, which I wrote to calculate the Julia aspect of the Mandeloids created by the DivideBrot5 formula.   It does its job quite well, and as today's image shows, does it in record time.

The calculation time of today's image is no mistake.   It finishes in a bit over 2 seconds.   True, the XY-axis symmetry helps, but even with no symmetry, the image finishes in a mere 9 seconds.

The name "Julia-Type Fantasy" came about when I first saw the image and thought "that's fantastic".   Well, the truth is that I have occasionally seen similar Julia sets in my travels through Fractal Land, but today's image strikes me as one of the better ones.

The rating of a 7 might have been higher if I had put a bit more effort into the coloring.

And if the calculation time of 2 seconds is too fast, things may be slowed down by surfing to the FOTD web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html
and viewing the finished image there in a slightly slower time of one minute.

Brilliant morning sun with a temperature of 23F -5C gave way to increasing clouds in the afternoon here at Fractal Central on Wednesday.   The fractal cats would have preferred a bit more afternoon sun, but seemed happy enough, especially when the tuna treats appeared.

My day was average.   I expect a repeat tomorrow.   The next FOTD will be posted to the Fractint list in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and when does that new world of peace, plenty, love and harmony get here?
