FOTD -- May 16, 2008   (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

When I was but a small child, I was fascinated by the sound produced by striking the top of the metal bed post with a coin.   The indescribable sound was strangely familiar.   I was sure I had heard it long before but had forgotten where.   Then quite a few years later, I heard the same sound on a record of unusual sound effects, with the note that the sound reminds most people of something very familiar from the distant past, but long ago forgotten.   We'll file the nature of this haunting sound as mystery of life number 13,702.

Today's fractal is not nearly as mysterious.   It is a scene in the parent fractal that results when 4.5 negative parts of Z^(-1.05) are combined with 0.8 negative parts of Z^(-8.8) and (1/C) is added.

This parent fractal is a grossly inflated thing requiring several outzooms to fit onto the screen, and featuring an incredible feather-like 'fan' attached to an even larger circular bay.   Today's scene skips the 'fan', and is found instead at the end of a filament extending from a bud on the shore of the circular bay, and terminating in a scalloped ring.

I named the image "Celestial Festival", not that there's anything particularly heavenly about it.   Then I rated it at a 7, which is not at all a bad rating.

With a running time of 31 seconds, the included parameter file will bring the agony of impatience to no one.

The finished image is or soon will be posted to the FOTD web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html

Partly cloudy and mild weather prevailed here at Fractal Central on Thursday, with a high temperature of 72F 22C.   The fractal cats greeted the periods of sunshine with enthusiasm.   My day slowed down as the day progressed, but there was still a bit of hastiness when FOTD time arrived.

The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and when the world turns against you, open a gift shop selling candles, teddy bears, and pseudo-country items with feel-good slogans on them.
