FOTD -- May 15, 2008   (No Rating)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Due to the busy conditions here at Fractal Central, today's FOTD is a very hasty one that deserves no rating.

The unusually fast image lies in the fractal that results when the formula Z^(1.37)+C is iterated at level 1.37 of the complex log ladder when no function is applied.

This parent fractal is shaped something like a garden mole pulling itself halfway out of its burrow.   The mole's head appears as a large period-2 bud, with a pointed snout.

Today's scene is located on a zigzag filament in a clump of debris on the northeast shore of the main bay.   To add a bit of interest, the image was rendered with the outside set to 'tdis'.

I named the image "Looping the Loop" for no good reason.

The fireball-fast calculation time of under 23 seconds is made possible by the unusually small magnitude of 35.   And as always, the finished image is available for immediate viewing on the FOTD web site at:

Wednesday started sunny here at Fractal Central, but by noon the sky had clouded over, and by late afternoon light rain had moved in.   The fractal cats observed all this with disinterest.   In my department the day was unusually busy.   Thursday will be another busy day, though not as hectic as Wednesday.   If all goes as planned the next FOTD, as unimpressive as it might be, will be posted in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and search for good fractal fortune.
