Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- April 27, 2008   (Rating 9)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

For today's image I took yesterday's parent fractal, but subtracted a little more Z^sqrt(3) from a little less Z^sqrt(2), resulting in a fractal that is somewhat larger than yesterday's parent, with different oddities located mostly along the X-axis.

I found today's image along the positive X-axis, which is where a main spike would normally be expected in a Mandeloid rotated 180 degrees.   But in today's parent, a spike is nowhere in sight.   Instead of a spike, we find a maze of twisting pathways, infinitely divided, with countless minibrots scattered about.   Today's image shows one of these minibrots.

I named the image "Web of Darkness".   The unusual amount of darkness surrounding the windmill-like spider-web pattern inspired the name.   The rating of a 9 indicates that I consider the image to be much better than the everyday FOTD fare.

The calculation time of a mere minute should leave every fractalist iterating with joy.   And the finished image is also joyously posted on the FOTD web site at:

The unusually fine spring weather continued here at Fractal Central on Saturday.   Mostly sunny skies with a temperature of 73F 23C can hardly be beat.   At nightfall a mild thunder-shower moved in, but by that time the day had ended and the rain merely watered the flowers.   The fractal cats must have agreed, for they were on their best behavior all day.

My day was as slow as I had hoped it would be, which is the way I like days to be.   The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and look for the light admidst the gloom.
