Fractal of the Day

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: A fractal, like a little child, deserves a childish name, such as "Wiggly Squiggly", so that's what I named today's image, which lies in the parent fractal that results when 10 negative parts of Z^(-1.1) are combined with one negative part of Z^(-11) and (1/C) is added. This parent fractal is a grossly oversized thing with quite a spectacular 'fan'. Today's scene is located near the southern edge of this fan. The parent fractal appears promising, so I might stick with it for a few more days to see what I can find. I'm certain it holds images that will rate better than today's 6-1/2. The calculation time of just under 4 minutes is a bit longer than I would have preferred, but still short enough to make calculation almost a pleasure. For total pleasure however, go to the FOTD web site at: While I am working with fractals, my thoughts often drift to distractions such as the nature of reality. By this time I am no longer certain that such a thing as an absolute reality even exists. The whole idea of an objectively real world out there and apart from us may be just another concept invented by our overly fertile imagination. Then, once we had invented our reality, we designed a method of science that would be compatible with our invention. And then again, I sometimes wonder whether it is myself that is doing the dreaming . . . Heavy clouds, chilly temperatures and occasional light rain spoiled things here at Fractal Central on Sunday. The fractal cats agreed and passed most of the day sleeping and chasing each other around. My day was reasonably calm, which left ample time for the fractal hunt, but as today's image shows, I bagged only a mediocre one. The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours. Most likely it will be an improvement. Until then, take care, and endure in the big search. Jim Muth jamth@mindspring.com jimmuth@aol.com |
