FOTD -- March 27, 2008   (Rating 8.5)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

A rating of 8-1/2 for a fractal that takes 16 minutes to calculate is pretty unusual, but today's image is unusual enough to earn it.   The name "Going Ever Deeper" refers to the magnitude of today's image, which at close to 3*1013 goes beyond the limit of perfect resolution.   The mathtolerance entry assures that the image will be calculated at the correct magnitude.

The scene of today's action lies in the same area of the same parent fractal that gave us yesterday's image.   The tiny minibrot at the center, which is beyond resolution, was most difficult to find.   Nothing but pure instinct led me to it.   To see the difficulty, reset the logmap to zero and return to the parent fractal.   There is almost no clue at all that the minibrot exists.

The calculation time of 16 minutes is admittedly slow, so I recommend visiting the FOTD web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html
and enjoying the fully rendered image there.

With bright sun, puffy clouds and temperature of 61F 16C, Wednesday turned out to be the best day so far this spring here at Fractal Central.   The local fractal cats must have agreed, for they spent the better part of the afternoon gazing at the outdoors that they never get to visit.

My day was busy but made satisfying by the better-than-average fractal of the day.   Tomorrow will likely be less busy.   I have no comment about the next FOTD fractal, which will be posted in 24 hours.   Until that semi-glorious moment, take care, and stop to wonder why fractals exist at all.
