FOTD -- January 03, 2008   (Rating 8.5)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

In today's image we view Seahorse Valley from the Mandelbrot orientation, and check the Seahorse Valley of a minibrot that lies deep in the parent Seahorse Valley.   The result is a very attractive fractal with double seahorse features, which lies right at the limit of conventional math, making the mathtolerance entry necessary.   The name I gave the image, "Diamond Seahorse", fully explains itself.

The rating of an 8-1/2 credits me with 1/2 point for the coloring.   The colors are good because things are slow around F.C. today, and it's always easier to create good colors when there is extra time to work on them.

The calculation time of 5-1/2 seconds is no mistake.   This is how fast the P4-2000mhz machine runs the speeded-up type=mandel formula.   Today's image is one of the few FOTD images that calculates in less time than it takes to stop at the FOTD web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html
and view the finished image there.   But the calculation time does not include the time required to set up the parameter file for calculation, so in the end, it is still both faster and simpler to visit the web site.

Wednesday was sunny but cold here at Fractal Central, with an afternoon temperature of 26F -3C and a biting wind from the northwest.   The fractal cats put their noses to the window, then decided it was best to stretch out on their broad warm shelf over the radiator.

My day was slow, which permitted the extra work on the colors of today's FOTD.   The next fractal in the near-endless series will be posted in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and where do we go from here?
