FOTD -- December 17, 2007   (Rating 6.5)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's sojourn into the December fractal takes us to a spurious little valley in the interesting area around the origin.   At first glance, this valley appears to have no right to hold minibrots.   But right or wrong, minibrots are there, and today's image gives rock-solid proof of their presence.

To give the image its finished appearance, I needed to partially evaporate the scene and render it with the inside parts set to 'bof61'.   Actually, with the logmap set to -1842, any of the inside fills would have worked equally as well.   They all simply add a flat color.

Perhaps with a bit too much enthusiasm I rated the image at a 6-1/2.   The colors really are not all that great.   The name "Around the Rim" refers to the brilliant ring surrounding the somewhat obscured central minibrot.

The calculation time of 14 minutes is slow for such a moderately worthy image.   I recommend viewing the image instead on the FOTD web site at.   I will send the image on ahead to Paul, so it should be already posted by the time this FOTD hits the cyberway.   The world-famous FOTD web site may be accessed at:

Sleet fell all night Saturday here at Fractal Central.   At daybreak Sunday it changed to a cold rain, which made a really sloppy mess of things.   Then at noon on Sunday the rain changed to snow.   When the snow ended at 5pm a high wind arose, with gusts to 50mph 80kph, making the day near a total loss.   The fractal cats had no sympathy.   They demanded extra treats of chunk tuna and sharp cheddar cheese.

My day was kept busy by the task of clearing the heavy slop from the walk ways.   The task was finished however in time for the fractal.   The next fractal will be posted in 24 hours.   Until that glorious moment arrives, take care, and when reason proves to be the answer, question the question.
