Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- December 03, 2007   (Rating 8)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's image lies in the same parent fractal that gave us the images of the past two days.   This parent is indescribable, but I can state with perfect confidence that the scene of today's image is located in the valley leading to a period-13 bud.

Despite its high periodicity, this bud is the largest on the circular main bay of the parent fractal.   (The normally largest period-2 bud is located far around to the northeast, actually lying on the edge of a valley.)

Since I consider today's image a notable improvement over the past two days' efforts, I rated it at an 8.   The name "Somewhere Sometime" has whatever meaning the viewer chooses to see in it.

The calculation took 1/100 of a second less than 4 minutes on the fast machine.   On the slow one it would take about 20 minutes.   The trip to the FOTD web site, where the completed image is posted, will be even faster.   The web site may be accessed at:

About 2 inches, 5cm, of snow fell overnight Saturday here at Fractal Central, but above freezing temperatures on Sunday melted it quickly.   Otherwise, the day was cloudy and raw.   The fractal cats spent the day huddled next to the radiators.

My day was slow and uneventful.   If tomorrow is the same, I'll be thankful.   The next FOTD will be posted by me in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and what time is it at this moment in the Andromeda Galaxy?
