Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- September 27, 2007   (Rating 6-1/2)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

My apologies for the lateness of today's FOTD image.   Sometimes these things just can't be helped.   Anyway, here it is, twelve hours late, for all it's worth.

Today's image comes from the same indescribable parent fractal as yesterday's image.   But today, instead of checking a vague spiral in a semi-chaotic debris field as we did yesterday, we check an almost straight but broken string of debris in the same field.   What we find there is a variation on yesterday's image.

In yesterday's image the emphasis was on the underlying fractal shapes, while in today's image the colors predominate.   The name "Afire with Passion" was inspired by the colors.   It has nothing to do with a cheap romance novel, so don't expect any lusty pirates or romantic passion.   The passion in today's image is of the totally abstract mathematical variety.   It's in the fiery colors, not quite as passionate as a romance novel hero but far more intellectual.

After much indecision I rated today's image a 6-1/2.   The rating is not so great, but today's image is not the best of all time either.   It's still worth a look however, especially with a calculation time of only 20 seconds.

Unfortunately, due to the lateness, the pre-calculated GIF image will not be posted on the FOTD web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html
for 12 hours or so.

On Wednesday the temperature reached 91F 33C here at Fractal Central, which is located in central Pennsylvania.   Such a temperature at the end of September is almost unheard of, and made it necessary to turn on the cool air.   The fractal cats did not worry themselves with heat or cool.   They were more interested in the pigeons cooing and cavorting on the roof of the neighboring house.

Though today's FOTD is shamefully late, tomorrow's should be ready on time.   Look for it to appear at this same place at the usual time.   Until then, take care, and has anyone ever made a cheap sci-fi movie about killer fractals?
