FOTD -- September 20, 2007   (Rating 6)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

I named today's rather unusual fractal picture "A Tight Squeeze".   I gave it this name because the poor little minibrot at the center is being squeezed by an ever-shrinking bailout radius, and is at the point where it is about ready to be swallowed up into the nothingness that awaits all uniterated fractals.

The rating of 6 is based largely on the coloring, which I spent some extra time on.   Without this hand-designed palette, the image would hardly be worth a second look.

The parent fractal is an oversized and very distorted Mandelbrot set, notable for its unusually small buds.   Most of this parent fractal lies off the left edge of the default screen.   This distorted set is surrounded by clusters of debris, with today's scene located in a bit of debris near the negative X-axis, just to the east of the main bay, but still well within negative real territory.

The calculation time of 14 seconds is no mistake.   This is the time the image takes to finish on the P4-2000mhz computer.   On the worn-out P200 machine it would finish in about 1-1/2 minutes.

For maximum convenience, the completed image is posted on the FOTD web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html
where it may be instantly viewed and enjoyed.

Near perfect conditions continued here at Fractal Central on Wednesday.   After the early morning fog cleared off, the warm sun warmed the air to 77F 25C.   The fractal cats amused themselves a good part of the afternoon by watching two chipmunks frolicking in the grass in the back yard.

My day was kept active by an unexpected job, which occupied most of the morning, but left the afternoon free for leisure.   The FOTD will appear again in 24 hours.   Until next time, take care, and then some.
