Fractal of the Day

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image rates a 9, and most of this rating is based on its coloring. Without the bit of extra effort I put into the color palette, the fractal would be just another picture of a Minibrot rather deep on the sinuous filament of the period-11 sub-bud on the northeast shoreline of the large period-2 bud centered at -1 in the Mandelbrot set, where the Seahorse Valley characteristics are just starting to appear. I named the image "Helixes All Around" when I had the impression that the sixteen wavy lines radiating from the bluish pattern around the Midget are actually three-dimensional helixes. The calculation time of 4-¾ minutes is surprisingly fast for an arbitrary precision image with a magnitude of over 1020. But even this short wait may be bypassed by going to the FOTD web site at: Thursday brought continuing clouds to Fractal Central, but we enjoyed a short interval of sun in the afternoon, which let the temperature rise to a pleasant 79F 26C. The fractal cats spent several hours watching the scene from their window, but I think they were more concerned with the pigeons cooing on the porch roof than with the weather. My day was pleasantly slow; hopefully tomorrow will be the same. The next FOTD will most likely appear in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and make your peace with a renegade fractal.
