FOTD -- August 18, 2007   (No Rating)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Now and then I like to pull out old forgotten formulas and see what they can do.   Today's formula is about 10 years old.   It is an early attempt to draw oblique slices through the Julibrot, while checking different powers of C.

It is only moderately successful at doing this, but it still can produce some interesting images.   Today's image is a scene in East Valley of the Mandeloid created by the formula Z2+C8.   The slice is oriented very close to, but not exactly in, the Julia direction.

The resulting fractal has the outer shape of the East Valley Julia sets but with a very decorative 'star' in the center.   I named the image "Absolute Insanity" because it makes so little sense.

With no idea of what other images might lie in the formula, I could give today's image no rating, but it is still a rather interesting, if not the most attractive, image of all time.

The included parameter file calculates in 4-1/4 minutes on the fast machine.   It would take 23 minutes on the P200mhz.   To see the image without the need to calculate it, go to the FOTD web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html
and view it there.

Friday began muggy here at Fractal Central, but turned quite pleasant during the afternoon.   The cats gave up waiting for another bat to appear, and resumed their normal activity of making their own trouble.   My day was peaceful enough.

The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and walk with spirit.
