Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- July 03, 2007   (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's image was brought about by a formula that subtracts 0.12 part of Z^(-10) from 1.075 parts of (1/Z), then adds (1/C).   The parent fractal is a grossly oversized hourglass-shaped Mandeloid with a prominent East Valley but no negative stem.   Several outzooms are needed to fit the whole fractal onto the screen.

Today's scene is located in a minor valley near the point where the main negative stem should be attached.   I named the image "Serendipitous Atom" and rated it at a 7.   I think B. Mandelbrot called the midgets 'atoms'.

On the fast P2000 machine, the image takes a little over 6 minutes to run.   It would take about 1/2 hour on the slow P200 unit.   The completely-rendered image is available for instant viewing on the FOTD web site at:

The absolutely perfect days here at Fractal Central are growing frustrating, especially when one is too busy to enjoy them.   The fractal cats agree, and showed their displeasure by getting into a spat over who got to lie on the large scratching post.

My day was acceptable; tomorrow will likely be acceptable also.   The following day will be a holiday.   The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and though fractals have a beginning, they are without end.
