FOTD -- April 05, 2007   (Rating ?)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Wednesday was one of those days when one annoying little thing after another seemed to happen.   To start things off, the main computer went dead, then just when I thought the work rush had ended, a new rush job came in.   Luckily, the backup machine runs fine and the job is small enough to be finished by noon Thursday, but all this once again put a damper on my fractal ambitions.

Today's super-fast image is not a scene in a parent fractal, it is the parent fractal itself.   And it is one of the most unusual fractals I have yet seen.   I spent several minutes trying to decide what kind of rating to give it before I gave up in frustration and rated it a question mark.   The name I gave it -- "Ultimate Parent" is an accurate description.

The generating formula mixes 5 negative parts of Z^(-1.2) with 3/4 of one negative part of Z^(-4.5) and adds (1/C).   The calculation time is a speedy 1-1/2 minutes on my oldest machine.   For even greater convenience, the completed GIF image is posted on the FOTD web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html

Today's image is not the last we shall see of this parent fractal.   It is simply chock full of interesting midgets, some of which will appear as FOTD fractals over the next several days.

Clouds and a chilly rain made Wednesday quite unpleasant here at Fractal Central.   The temperature of 48F 9C brought out the winter coats, and also brought the cats to the heat.   My day was once again busier than I would have liked, but have faith, the end of the rush is near.   The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours.   Until then, take care of where you wander in the land of fractals.
