FOTD -- March 28, 2007   (Rating 5)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's image lies in the fractal that appears when 6 parts of Z^(-1), which is (1/Z), are combined with one part of Z^(-2) and straight C is added.   This parent fractal is not unusually promising -- an oversized egg-shaped open oval with pointed ends and a string of circles mounted on stems, stretching down the middle.   There is almost none of the semi-chaos that promises good fractal hunting.   But hope springs eternal in the breast of every devoted fractalist, and those who search deeply enough will find this parent fractal loaded with goodies.

All right, I admit that I did render today's image with the inside set to 'fmod' and the outside set to 'summ', but a little something extra really was needed to bring the image to life.   When rendered in my normal manner, with the inside=0 and the outside=iter, the resulting piles of flat splotches are hardly worth FOTD status.

Though I rated today's image at a 5, I gave it no name.   After studying it for 5 minutes, I saw nothing that reminds me of anything familiar.

The 9-1/4 minutes required to run the included parameter file may be saved by going to the FOTD web site at:

and viewing the image there.

Unexpectedly warm weather arrived here at Fractal Central on Tuesday, when the temperature reached a high of 82F 28C.   The plentiful sunshine and light winds made it feel more like mid-summer than early spring.   Of course, the fractal cats did not concern themselves with the outside conditions.   As long as it is reasonably comfortable inside, they do not complain about the weather.

My day was again a little busier than I would have liked, but things are definitely slowing down.   The slow-down should lead to better fractals, the next of which will appear in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and a fractal visionary, like all visionaries, is one who sees things that others miss.   Whether those things are 'real' or 'all in the mind' is irrelevant.
