Fractal of the Day

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's harmless diversion fractal resulted when I combined Z^(1.6) with half as much Z^(3.2) and added straight C. The resulting parent fractal is beyond description -- kind of like half of two joined 'siamese' Mandelbrot sets. Today's scene is located at the edge of the southern branch of a kind of East Valley. This valley defines a kind of period-2 bud. Since almost all fractals are harmless diversions, I named today's FOTD "Harmless Diversion". In keeping with the trend of late, I declined to rate it. I just might discontinue the FOTD rating system. Ratings are a subjective thing anyway, and no two people will rate the same fractal the same way. Most of the interest in today's image is a result of rendering it with the outside set to 'tdis', an option that plots the colors according to how far the points travel before escaping. The render time of 13-1/2 minutes is true on an ancient P133 machine. On a SOTA fireball, it will finish in a minute or two. Those without fireballs may see today's image on the FOTD web site at: Tuesday featured lots of clouds and occasional periods of light snow here at Fractal Central. The temperature eventually reached a high of 30F -1C, and the snow never amounted to much. The fractal cats paid no attention to the outside conditions. They spent most of the day chasing each other up and down the hall and washing each other's faces, taking a break only long enough to enjoy their evening treats. As today's hasty fractal shows, my day was very hectic. This feast or famine schedule leaves something to be desired. The next FOTD will appear, if all goes well, in 24 hours.
