FOTD -- January 17, 2007   (No Rating)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's image reminds me of an array of filters, so I named it "Fractal Filters".   The parent fractal was created by the formula Z^(1.1)+Z^(2.9)+C.   This parent fractal is a Mandelbrot set nearly but not quite symmetrical around the Y-axis, with its normally west side facing south and a lot more activity than would be expected beyond its East Valley, which in this case is on the north side of the M-set.

Today's scene is located in a kind of herringbone pattern near the northern edge of the western wedge that sets off all the extra stuff beyond East Valley.   But this description in words really gives little idea of the situation.   The best way to see how the image is situated in its parent is to back out of the image until its location in the parent fractal becomes clear.

Unsure of what rating to give the image, I gave it no rating at all.   But it is still worth a look, especially with its calculation time of under 2 minutes.

And the already-calculated image is or soon will be posted on the FOTD web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html
where it may be studied at leisure.

A blustery chilly day, with occasional light flurries of snow here at Fractal Central on Tuesday, brought the fractal cats to the window several times to watch the flakes blow by.   But when treat time arrived, they had totally forgotten about the outside conditions.   My day was satisfactorily normal.

The next FOTD fractal will appear in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and be attentive to the fractals in the world around you.
