Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- January 08, 2007   (No Rating)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's formula, Z^(1.2)-Z^(1.8)+C, draws a Mandelbrot set rotated 180 degrees, with its east valley on the west side.   This East Valley does not terminate in a point however.   It terminates in a kind of wedge.   Today's scene is located in a small valley on the southern edge of this wedge.

I named the image "Orchids in Bloom", though now I can see little reason for such a name.   I made no effort to rate the image.   I simply felt lazy.

The image was calculated in the normal inside=0, outside=iter method.   Other outside options give somewhat different versions of the scene, though it is a toss-up whether any of them are better than today's effort.

The calculation time of 22 minutes is slow enough to cause impatience.   But the cure for any fractal impatience is on the internet at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html
where the GIF image has been calculated and posted for all concerned fractalists to view at their leisure.

The daytime weather was fair enough here at Fractal Central on Sunday, with partly sunny skies and a temperature of 48F 9C.   But toward evening, clouds moved in fast, and by 7pm a chilly rain set in.   The fractal cats stopped their play long enough to notice the raindrops on the window.   Then they asked for their evening treats.

My day was average.   There was no rush work to do, so I spent most of the afternoon watching TV and exploring Fractal Land.   The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and walk among the stars.   (The stars in the sky, that is.)
