FOTD -- December 29, 2006   (Rating 6)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

For today's fractal recipe I mixed 2 parts of Z^(2) with 0.1 part of Z^(0.1) and added C.   The resulting parent fractal is shaped pretty much like the Mandelbrot set.   But closer examination reveals strange things happening, especially in the vicinity of the large period-2 bud and the negative stem, which have undergone such a transformation as to be barely recognizable.   Today's scene is located on the northwest shoreline of what remains of the large bud.

I named the image "Fractal Curlicues".   That's what I thought of when I first saw the swirling, twisting elements surrounding the compulsory central midget.   With its rating of a 6, the image is just barely above average.

And as for that pesky calculation time, the 3-3/4 minutes should try the patience of few if any.   Those who for some reason do not calculate fractals from parameter files may view the image by visiting the FOTD web site at:

where it is or soon will be posted for all the world to see.

Cloudy skies and an unseasonably mild temperature of 46F 8C made conditions relatively harmless here at New Fractal Central on Thursday.   The fractal cats were still amused by the shreds of gift wrapping we left lying around for them to play with.   They do not concern themselves with mundane things such as outside weather.   My day was a little busy, but nothing that I could not handle.   The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours, give or take a few.   Until then, take care, and be serene as you travel from day to day.
