FOTD -- December 24, 2006   (Rating 5)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's average fractal image exists in the parent fractal that results when the formula Z^(2.003)+C is calculated 68 levels up the complex logarithmic ladder.   The image is located on the western shore of the south branch of Seahorse Valley.

On the surface, the parent fractal resembles a normal everyday Mandelbrot set rotated 10 degrees.   But deep down in the area of the negative X-axis some strange discontinuous things are happening.

The unusual effects are due entirely to the discontinuities in the everyday iteration bands of the image.   No special methods were used to create them.

I named the image "Squiggles" on a whim.   The squiggliness in the actual image is rather vague.   The average rating of a 5 goes perfectly with such an average image.

The render time of 8-1/4 minutes on my tired old computer is a bit show, but calculating the image with the passes set to 'g' will knock a minute or so off the render time.   And if all else fails, the image may be viewed on the FOTD web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html

The rain ended at daybreak and the sun appeared at noon here at New Fractal Central on Saturday.   The temperature reached 52F 16C during the afternoon, but the fractal cats were more interested in the decorated tree than the weather.   They didn't forget the tree until their evening treats were served.   My day was plenty busy with holiday things.   The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and be lively.
