FOTD -- December 16, 2006   (Rating 5)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's fractal expression -- 5*(Z^(0.4))+Z^(2.6)+C -- draws a rotated Mandelbrot set with a crooked main stem that terminates then fizzles out in a crooked extended string of dots and dashes.   Today's image is located on one of the dashes.

I named the image "Layer Upon Layer".   The colored layers are what I noticed first as I studied it.   The layered look was achieved by rendering the image with the 'outside' set to 'tdis'.   The 'tdis' idea seemed good at the start, but the final result fell a bit short of my expectations, resulting in the rating of a not bad but not good either 5.

One thing actually good about the image is its speedy render time of 2-1/2 minutes, which should try the patience of very few.   Another good thing may be found on the FOTD web site where the already-rendered image is posted and ready to be seen by all.   The FOTD web site may be accessed at:

A cloudy morning gave way to a partly sunny afternoon here at New Fractal Central on Friday, while the temperature reached a very mild 57F 14C.   The fractal fans ignored the weather.   They were more interested in batting a wad of crumpled paper around the house and searching for mice.   The futile effort had them ready to settle to sleep by the time their evening treat was served.

My day was about as close to normal as it is possible for a day to be.   May most days be the same.   The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and could it be possible that fractals can cure a broken heart?
