Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- December 07, 2006   (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

To generate today's 7-rated fractal image I combined negative Z^3 and negative Z^5 to create a parent fractal shaped somewhat like the dome of a Buddhist temple.   On the northeast shoreline of the main bay lies a partially obscured bud, which at first looks totally non-critical -- the last place in the fractal world one would expect a midget.

But in the world of fractals, nothing can be taken for granted until it is thoroughly checked out.   One of the wedges converging on the mouth of this bud actually has midgets all through it.   They are not easy to find, but they are there.   Today's image shows one of these midgets.

When I saw the image I was reminded of Christmas ornaments and decided on the name "Decorated Fractal".   The colors however have little to do with the season.   The ornamental effect was achieved by rendering the scene with the inside set to 'bof60', which fills the inside parts with tiny balls.

The render time of 5-1/2 minutes is reasonable for an image that rates a 7.   And the image may be seen even faster by going to the FOTD web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html
and viewing it there.

A temperature of 46F 8C and partly cloudy skies made conditions near ideal for the fractal cats here at New Fractal Central on Wednesday.   For me the day was rather slow.   The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and keep thinking fractal.
