Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- August 03, 2006   (Rating 6)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

The parent fractal of today's image subtracts 0.1 part of Z^5 from one full part of Z^3, resulting in a small but interesting Mandelbrot set lying just beyond the left border of the opening screen.   Today's image lies in the East Valley of this M-set, which is rotated 180 degrees, making East Valley actually a west valley.

To add life to the image I rendered it with outside=tdis in effect.   The unusually obvious square feature surrounding the central midget inspired the name "A Square Deal".   When the time to rate the image arrived, I looked at it and decided it was just unusual enough to rate a slightly-above-average 6.

A 6-rated fractal is nothing to get excited about, but the calculation time of just over 1 minute is so short that little effort will have been wasted if the result fails to please.   And the calculation may be escaped entirely by downloading the already rendered image in GIF format from the FOTD web site at:

More 99F 37C stifling heat here at Fractal Central on Wednesday kept the fractal cats glad that they did not have to go outside.   It is far more pleasant chasing each other about in air-conditioned comfort.   But when Cassie finally cornered Nico, she grabbed him and started kicking him in the head.   Luckily, Nico has a thick head.

In my department, the work was slow but my energy was low.   The two canceled each other out.   Unless the unexpected happens, as it sometimes does, the next FOTD will appear in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and walk and talk with fractals.
