FOTD -- August 02, 2006   (Rating 5)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's FOTD is 12 hours late.   My excuse:  the usual one about too much work.

Today's little diversion takes us to the fractal that results when various portions of Z^(-2.5) and Z^(-10.7) are combined and (1/C) is added.   There is little to be said about the image, which must be seen to be appreciated.

Unsatisfied with the colors, I could rate the image no higher than an average 5.   But its fireball speed of under two minutes on my tired old machine means that little effort is required to calculate it.

I named the picture "Bits and Pieces" for no good reason.   Of course, all fractals created with negative powers of Z come in bits and pieces, so the name might not be so inappropriate after all.

The image is a very fast one, but for those whose computers have forgotten the good old days of DOS and Fractint, the completed GIF image has been posted in its full quasi-glory to the FOTD web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html

Extremely hot weather, with a high of 99F 37C here at Fractal Central on Tuesday kept everything subdued.   The fractal cats spent the day stretched on the coolest spots they could find.   I spent the day busy working.   Today promises to be a repeat.   The next FOTD is due in 12 hours.   Check to see if it makes it.   Until then, take care, and be reasonably rational.
