Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- May 03, 2006   (No Rating)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's minor FOTD image takes us to the eastern shoreline of the north branch of Seahorse Valley, where we find a spider-like midget lurking deep at the western limit of the period-17 radical.   I found nothing in the image that might earn a name or rating, so it will remain forever nameless and ratingless.

Now the number 17 is a prime number, though this has no significance to the appearance of the fractal.   The magnitude is marginally within the range of arbitrary precision math, which slows the calculation to 8 minutes.   This does not seem like much of a slowdown, but the normal double-precision math would calculate the image in around 5 seconds, but at a cost of considerable loss of definition.

For universal peace of mind, the pre-rendered GIF image has been posted to the FOTD web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html
from where it may be downloaded at leisure.

Both the weather and the fractal cats were absolutely perfect here at Very Old Fractal Central on Tuesday.   In fact, if I had to design a perfect day, I would use the parameters that made Tuesday perfect.   The work combined with the moving plans made my day rather hectic, but not unnecessarily so.   The next FOTD should appear right here in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and fight to relax.
