Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- April 19, 2006   (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's image is a scene in the fractal that results when Z^(2.3) is subtracted from Z^(1.7) then C is added.   It was given extra impact by the dark goth-like color palette and the 'outside=tdis' rendering option.

The parent fractal appears as a distorted Mandelbrot set, rotated 180 degrees, so that the large period-2 bud is on the east side of the main bay.   This large bud has two prominent secondary buds, with equally prominent filaments extending from each of the buds.   Today's small midget is located in the vicinity of a larger midget on the north filament.

I gave the image a rating of a 7, though I did not make the effort to find a name.   The render time of under 4 minutes is brief enough for all but the most impatient fractalists.   For those few, and for those with over-qualified computers, the pre-rendered image has been posted on the FOTD web site at:

Ideal spring weather here at Old Fractal Central on Tuesday made the cats' day ideal.   They passed most of the afternoon alternating between their porch chairs and the holly thicket.   My day was quite busy, as the next month or two will be.   The next FOTD will appear within 24 hours, + or - an hour or so.   Until then, take care, and why is the fractalist leaving Baltimore?
