Fractal of the Day
by Jim Muth

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Wednesday was so busy that I had no chance to write and post today's FOTD until this morning. Since the upcoming days will be even busier, the next FOTD will not appear until December 28. Today's image is a colorful scene in the Seahorse Valley area of the Julibrot. It is a totally oblique view, with an orientation closest to the Julia direction. I named the image "Santa Claws". The claw-like feature inspired the name. This claw is the edge of a larger feature, which is only being skimmed by today's slice. The tiny spiral in the lower right part of the frame is actually the most important feature in the image. Change the first 4 parameters to 90 to see it explode and take over the entire frame. Being an honest man, I could rate today's fractal no higher than an average 5. I really put almost no effort into it. The render time of 2-3/4 minutes is within reason for an average FOTD, and the fractal may also be accessed by downloading the finished GIF file from the FOTD web site at: Wednesday's weather was a repeat of Tuesday's here at the old Fractal Central. It was once again too blustery and chilly for sensitive fractal cats to venture out of doors. They spent the day toggling between sleep and watching the outside from the comfort of their window shelf. My day was busier than average, but still well under control. However, with so much holiday stuff piling up, and with the search for the new Fractal Central still in full swing, I must take a 5-day break from the FOTD. The next FOTD will appear in 6 days, on or about December 28. Until then, take care, and wait with bated but not abated breath. Jim Muth jamth@mindspring.com jimmuth@aol.com |
