Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- November 16, 2005   (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's fractal combines negative portions of Z^2 and Z^3, then adds C.   The resulting parent fractal is a Mandelbrot set with a few added frills and a lot more action in East Valley.   Today's image is located rather deep in the added action of East Valley.

I named the image "A Mandel Set for All-2", which is more a catalog listing than a proper name.   The unusual effect was achieved by rendering the image with the outside set to 'fmod' and a proximity of 1.1.   The mathtolerance entry in the parameter file assures that the image is rendered at the right magnitude.

The rating of a 7 indicates that I consider the image well worth the effort of rendering it.   At the same time, the render time of 10-1/2 minutes is slow enough for the download to be the better choice.   The completed GIF file may be found on the FOTD web site, ready for download.   The web site may be accessed at:

The clouds hung heavy all Tuesday morning here at Fractal Central, but the sun emerged in mid-afternoon and the temperature was warm enough for the cats to make the most of things.   They spent the afternoon lurking (more likely sleeping) in the holly patch.   Their day was made complete by a dish of tuna in the evening.   My day was relatively uneventful.   The next FOTD will appear here in 24 hours.   Until that mystical moment arrives, take care, and enjoy the mystery.
