FOTD -- October 04, 2005   (Rating 6)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

When I brought up an old formula named 'Crazy Midgets', I thought it looked strangely familiar.   I was searching for a formula I have hidden somewhere that draws small Mandelbrot sets arranged in circles, but today's formula is not the one I was after.   The 'Crazy Midgets' formula is actually an early version of the MandelbrotMix4 workhorse formula, and today's image could just as easily have been created with that formula.

To produce the parent fractal, 0.2 part of Z^(3) was combined with Z^(-2) and C was added.   This parent consists of a somewhat distorted central Mandelbrot set surrounded by a scattering of debris.   Today's scene is located on the negative X-axis, in a small cut-off pile of debris.   Little more need be said about the image, which speaks for itself.   (It's a talking fractal!)

The name "In a Spin" has little relation to the image, which holds nothing in the shape of a spiral.   It is simply a phrase that came to mind as I was studying the fractal in search of a name.   The rating of a 6 is just enough above average to make the effort of running the very fast parameter file worthwhile.

The image is also available on the FOTD web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html
where it is posted in completed form.

Genuinely perfect weather prevailed all day Monday here at Fractal Central, which kept the cats on their best behavior.   The cats are happy, but except for the grape growers, the local farmers are starting to complain about the dryness.   Today is opening with a low overcast and fog, but it is still dry.   We shall see how the day goes for the cats.   But regardless of how it goes for them, the next FOTD will appear in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and search for the real thing.
