Fractal of the Day

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is a scene along the eastern shoreline of the main bay of the fractal that results when the formula Z^(1.9)+C is iterated by the MandelbrotBC2 formula. I gave it no name and no rating. Its render time is a short 3-3/4 minutes, but even this short time may be cut further by downloading the completed GIF image from the FOTD web site at: While gathering my thoughts for the next outburst, I will take a moment to ponder some of the things I have written this far. I assume that by this time I have joined the ranks of the kooks, at least in the opinions of the more rational readers, who might have been expecting me to confine my search for hope and meaning to the things that have the official imprimatur of science. This of course I could not do. If I had limited my speculation to rational explanations, my discussion would have ended with the first message. I would have said that the expectation of existence beyond the physical life is a sort of mental shield evolved by mankind, which served a purpose in more primitive times, but which now is no longer needed. I might have tried to ease the disappointment by speaking of the wonderful things that technology might bring to our distant descendants. I might have speculated about conscious androids, cyberspace and techno-realities. But all my speculation would be based on an advanced technology that might or might not be developed in the future. The present day humanity would be left to live out their hopeless lives and vanish into the past dimension of spacetime to soon be forgotten. The denial of the existence of other levels of reality is the real problem facing our scientifically-advanced western culture. If true hope for those now alive is to be found, it must found where I have searched, in the only place it could possibly exist -- in the deeper part of our nature. It must not be materialized and deferred to some technological wonderland that might or might not be brought about at some vague time in the distant future by a people who will not exist for a thousand years. I am left to wonder, why do we fear to look within ourselves? The weather on Saturday here at Fractal Central was quite perfect. But the fractal cats seemed unusually subdued. They must be mourning all the cats that perished in the disaster. I'll be pondering various things for the rest of the day. The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours. Until then, take care and all one needs to do is be himself. Jim Muth jamth@mindspring.com jimmuth@aol.com |
