Fractal of the Day

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image resulted when I combined 3 parts of Z^(0.6) with 3 parts of Z^(-0.5) and added C. I rendered the image with the outside set to 'tdis' and the inside set to 'bof61'. Since I did almost no coloring work, I gave the image no name and no rating. The render time of under 8 minutes can be cut to a minute or so by downloading the completed GIF image from the FOTD web site at: We have reached the point in the search for spiritual hope where we leave behind the rational world of physical reality. There is no room for hope in the rational view of the physical universe. There is only the consolation prize of pseudo-hope, hope deferred to others in the distant future. If the reality we observe with our senses and detect with our instruments is the whole of reality, then there is no hope for us at all, and the search for hope for ourselves is a futile endeavor based on a delusion. The best we can do is resign ourselves to oblivion and try to divert our attention for a while from the impending end. In order to find spiritual hope we must expand our concept of what constitutes reality. But how can we expand our concept of reality in a universe that already includes everything that exists? Those who enjoy science might turn to the quantum. One interpretation of quantum theory is that reality consists of an infinity of universes combined into a multiverse. But this turns out to be a false hope. These other alternate worlds, if they exist, are absolutely inaccessible, and even if they were accessible, there is nothing known that leaves a human body at death which might go on to another world and continue the individual existence of the one who had just died. It might be said that the worlds which now appear subjective, such as the world we observe in dreams, are actually other real worlds that we contact when our awareness is focused on a different level of existence. This is the occult view of things. The other worlds of occultism have been given names such as the astral plane. This view is hard to take seriously. Are we truly walking around, every day passing unknowingly through the scenery and inhabitants of an invisible world that interpenetrates our own? Some who call themselves 'sensitives' claim that they can see the other worlds interpenetrating our own and that this is indeed the case. It appears we might have found a glimmer of hope in occultism, but to me it seems more likely that these images of other worlds are natural processes in the physical brain rather than glimpses of objective spiritual realities. It is at this point where the skeptics' knees start to jerk. Nothing upsets skeptics more than talk of other real worlds, especially if the word 'spirit' is attached and it is claimed that the souls of the dead exist there. The skeptical response is all too often an attack on the intelligence of the occultist. To me, these over-zealous types of objections from skeptics appear to be largely a defense of scientism and the rational positivistic world view. Since the skeptics' objections are so filled with emotion, I consider them about as effectual as the emotional claims of the over-religious, which are a defense of their fundamental religious views. We have reached the point where we have discounted almost every possibility of finding a meaning for our existence. Where might we go from here in our search for hope? What have we missed? Have we missed anything? The path starts to brighten in the next installment of philosophy, which if all goes well here at Fractal Central will appear in the next philofractal message. Tuesday's weather was absolutely perfect here at Fractal Central, but the weather on Wednesday was even better. Needless to say, the cats were ecstatic. I was reasonably satisfied when I got the 2 jobs wrapped up. The next FOTD image, complete with philosophy, will appear in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and live in hope, not in delusion.
