FOTD -- September 02, 2005   (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

I'm not in much of a writing mood this morning, so I'll merely explain that today's image is a scene in the parent fractal associated with the third critical point of the expression that was used to create the previous two days' images.   This critical point is -0.4401695778.

This parent fractal is unlike the previous two associated with the expression, which were shapeless blobs with only hints of Mandel features.   Today's parent is shaped like a near-normal Mandelbrot set, with the addition of large open areas attached to the ends of the filaments.

As I hinted yesterday, today's image has been named "Still More Storm Clouds".   It is actually the best of the three 'storm' images.   I rendered the scene with the 'outside' parts set to 'tdis', which IMO makes the most of the scene.

The render time on my ancient machine is a not-too-slow 5-3/4 minutes.   This is just a little longer than the time needed to go online and download the already-rendered GIF image from the FOTD web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html

My mood today is more political than philosophical, so I have counted to 10,000 and will write nothing.   But the real philosophy is still brewing quite strongly, and when the time is right, I will post it with no holds barred.

Near perfect weather here at Fractal Central on Sunday made for near ideal cats.   They went outside at 11am, returned at 3pm for a snack, then went back outside until nightfall.   My day was philosophic but otherwise uneventful.   Today is starting the same as yesterday.   The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and it's always darkest before the dawn.
