Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- July 15, 2005   (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

To create the parent fractal of today's image I took negative recip(sqrt(Z)) and combined it with Z^2 before adding (1/C).   The resulting fractal is a very distorted main Mandeloid with twisted disconnected filaments scattered to its east and a large hole not far to its south, which is connected to the main Mandeloid.   Today's scene lies on a tiny side filament extending from the large hole.

I named the image "The Wheel of Life".   Trying to organize my philosophy, I have worked myself into a kind of mystical mood lately, and the name fits my mood.   Instead of the usual black background, today's image has a brilliant white background, which emphasizes the many sub-holes scattered through it.

The rating of a 7 seems about right.   The colors are quite intense, perhaps a bit too intense, and the 'tdis' outside option works quite well at bringing a sense of 3-D reality to the image.   The magnitude of the image is in the range where strange things start to happen with its size unless the mathtolerance entry is included in the parameter file.

The render time of 5 minutes is joyfully fast, giving impatience little time to rear its head.   Those with machines that are allergic to Fractint may see the image by downloading it from the FOTD web site at:

With a high temperature of 86F 30C, Thursday turned out to be not unbearably warm, but it was very humid here at Fractal Central.   Fractal cats are un-bothered by high humidity however, unless it starts to fall as rain.   No rain fell while the cats were taking it easy in the holly thicket, so I guess their day must be considered a success.   Today is starting much the same.   If the rain holds off again, it will be another good day.   For me, the work is starting to pile up and it looks like a busy day.   The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and keep your day in tune.
