Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- May 07, 2005   (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's annoyingly slow image is a scene deep in the half-moon that appeared in the 'Lunahalf' image 2 days ago.   In the original image, the detail inside the circle became obscured when the logmap spread out the iteration bands there.   In today's image, the logmap has been turned off and the rendering done with the outside set to 'tdis'.

The result is a rather gloomy scene filled with ferns and highlighted by colorful circles and comets.   The 'comets' and 'circles' are unusual enough to give the image a rating of a 7.

The name "Comets and Circles" describes the colorful objects scattered through the image.   The render time of one hour and 40 minutes is very slow.   I strongly recommend downloading the already-rendered image from the FOTD web site at:

The sky stayed cloudy all day here at Fractal Central on Friday, but the rain stayed east of us, and even though the temperature reached only 54F 12C, the cats managed a reasonably good 2 hours in the holly thicket.   They did ask for a bit of tuna in the evening however.   Today is starting partly cloudy.   The cats' day should be better.   The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and who is right?
