FOTD -- October 17, 2004   (Rating 6)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's formula, fn*z+z, multiplies a portion of Z by one of the functions then adds an extra part of Z.   The images thus created are many and varied.   A bit bewildered by the possibilities, I took 0.56 part of acosh(z) and added 0.5 part of Z to it, creating a fractal with X-axis symmetry that vaguely resembles a snowflake.

Today's scene, which is rotated 90 degrees from the normal orientation, is located on the X-axis.   I named the image "The Blue Eagle Flies", though there is little in it that resembles a flying eagle.   When I see the picture, I am reminded more of a levitating chicken than a flying eagle, but an eagle is a far more noble bird, so the name will remain.

Whether the image shows a chicken or an eagle is not that important.   The image has a certain 'feeling' about it that earns it a rating of 6.   When the render time of just under 5 minutes is considered, the overall value scores a rather routine 122.

The completed GIF image is available on the FOTD web site at:

The fractal cats did not enjoy the weather here at Fractal Central on Saturday.   The temperature reached 64F 18C, and there was enough sun, but a severe thunder-storm arose in the afternoon, which dropped enough hail for the neighbors to build a small hailman (a snowman made of slushy hail).   Another heavy storm moved in an hour later, which eliminated the hailman.   The cats spent the better part of the afternoon in the closet, hiding from the noise of the thunder.   Today promises to be much better, but after yesterday's deception, will the cats trust the sunny skies?

I am placing my trust in the world of fractals, where I will find the next FOTD image within 12 hours from now.   What I find will appear as tomorrow's FOTD.   Until then, take care, and the end is nowhere in sight.
