Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- September 25, 2004   (Rating 4)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's image is a scene in the fractal that results when 0.6 part of Z^(-1.212) is subtracted from 0.6 part of Z^(2.2) and (1/C) is added.   As are many fractals created by this type of formula, today's parent fractal consists of a distorted, oversized Mandeloid.   The scene is located rather deep in a broken spiral in what passes for an East Valley of the parent.

I rendered the scene with the outside set to 'fmod' and the proximity set to 1.1.   This departure from my usually purist outside=iter rendering came about because the 'iter' option draws a rather boring image.

While searching today's fractal for a name, I was reminded of the 'eyes' in a peacock's tail, and named the image "Peacock-Tail Eyes".   Unfortunately, I could find nothing that could raise the rating beyond a humble 4.   The render time of just over 9 minutes results in an overall value of 44.

The image may be seen by running the included parameter file.   Those whose system balks at running Fractint parameter files may download the completed GIF file from the FOTD web site at:

The Thursday and Friday weather was near perfect here at Fractal Central, and so was the attitude of the fractal cats, who had more time in the yard than they knew what to do with.   Today looks like another great day.   I expect the same for the duo.   In my department, the work is nearly caught up.   The next FOTD will appear on Sep 27.   The FOTD will likely resume its daily basis on Oct 1.   Until next fractal, take care, and don't get lost chasing fractal UFO's.
