FOTD -- September 23, 2004   (Rating 4)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

The most recent FOTD image featured fractal limes, so why not fractal oranges?   Today's image does in fact feature oranges -- eight of them in a circle around the central midget.

The formula is basically a whimsical frolic with the number pi.   The parent fractal is a very distorted oversized Mandeloid with an immense area of chaos lying to its north and west.   Today's scene is located in a small cut-off patch of chaos inland from a bud on the southern shore of the Mandeloid.

I named the image "Circled by Oranges" after the ring of orange circles surrounding the central midget.   I rated it at only a 4 because, like its predecessor, the image contains few memorable features that I could find.

On the worn-out P200 computer the image renders in 2-1/4 minutes.   On the new P3200 unit, it renders in 17 seconds -- almost exactly 1/8 the time.   The completed image may be downloaded from the FOTD web site at:

Absolutely perfect weather (clear skies and a temperature of 84F 29C) on Tuesday and Wednesday made for absolutely perfect fractal cats.   Feeling his third or fourth kittenhood, and encouraged by the great weather, Tippy broke the monotony by leaping for a low flying sparrow; but alas, Tippy has lost his speed, and his leap fell several inches short.   The bird flew by in no danger.   Thomas watched the activity with amusement.

As for myself, I am nearing the end of the work backlog, with only a small pile of unfinished stuff waiting for completion.   I might have it all caught up by the time the next FOTD appears on Sep 25 . . . or I might not.   Until then, take care, and try to keep your fractal enthusiasm under control.
