Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- July 03, 2004   (Rating 5)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's image takes us into the fourth dimension of space, an abstract world where time is the fifth dimension.   We should not be too shocked by a fourth spatial dimension.   According to the latest theories, our apparently three-dimensional world really has 11 dimensions, and maybe as many as 26.

It's too bad that we can fit only two of these dimensions onto our screens, but take heart.   Two dimensions are infinitely better than none.

The scene is located on a filament on the east side of the large midget on the negative X-axis of the Mandelbrot set.   A midget lies at the center of the image, though when viewed from this angle, it has been reduced to no more than a thin slit.

To add a little extra life to the scene, I rendered it with the outside set to 'real'.   I named the image "Fourth Dimension" because, with so much work in front of me, I did not want to take time to think of a better name.

The rating of a 5 is perfectly average.   The render time of 43 seconds is unusually fast however, and raises the overall value to an impressive 694.

But a download of the completed image is still the simplest way to view the scene.   The download may be found on the FOTD web site at:

With a temperature of 90F 32C, Friday was a bit too warm for the dynamic duo, who spent the afternoon in the deepest shade they could find.   When evening came, they returned inside without complaint.   Today looks like a repeat, which will be no problem for the cats.   With another load of work to tackle, I'll have a repeat also.   Until next FOTD in a day or two, take care, and be kind to homeless fractals.
