FOTD -- June 23, 2004   (Rating 5)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

The graphic work is still pretty far behind, but I decided to slip in a fractal quickie for today.

Today's average-rated image shows a screen full of almost-Siegel Disks.   These disks appear in the Julia sets that correspond to points on the exact egde of the Mandelbrot set, where the periodicity is infinite.   As far as I can determine, a Siegel disk consists of infinitely many tendrils going in circles around the central point.   This number of tendrils is not achieved in today's fractal, nor could it be achieved in any finite fractal, making the orange areas of today's image not quite siegel disks.

Luckily, Fractint's type=julia fractal is very fast.   If it were not, today's image, with its maxiter of 10-million, could take many hours to render.

I named today's image "Siegel Disks-1".   I have two more fractals ready that will continue the almost-Siegel theme.   I rated the image an average 5, which combines with the render time of under 15 minutes to give an absolute value of 34.

To see the disks in quicker time, download the completed image from the FOTD web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html

Things here at Fractal Central have been quite pleasant for the dynamic cats for the past several days.   But it has been very busy for me.   I still have quite a load of work to catch up on, so it's time to get started.   Until the next FOTD, which will appear in a few days, take care, and how many bytes of information could a siegel disk hold?
