Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- June 16, 2004   (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Sorry for the lateness, but other things needed to be done.

The formula behind today's fractal combines various parts of negative Z^(1.1) and Z^(-0.9), then adds (1/C).   The resulting parent fractal is a reasonably pure Mandelbrot set, with numerous slices of fractal debris to the southwest.   Today's fractal scene is located in one of these slices.

It is rare to see such a near-perfect circle of elements surrounding a midget, unless one dives to an extreme magnitude.   I have emphasized the circular elements of the scene and named the image "Discus".

The image is unusual enough to earn its rating of 7.   When the render time of 3-3/4 minutes is figured in, the overall value equals a very respectful 183.

As always, the completed GIF image is available on the FOTD web site at:

Another sunny and very warm (92F 33C) day kept the fractal cats inside until late in the afternoon.   The few drops of rain that fell in the early evening did not deter them from their enjoymemt.   They came inside at sunset fully satisfied.   Today is so far a repeat.

The work for me is still quite heavy.   If I hope to stay ahead, I had best get started.   Until next fractal, take care, and listen to the fractal murmur.
