FOTD -- May 01, 2004   (Rating 6)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's 6-rated image came about when I took Z^(-2.34), added 0.54 part of Z^(-4.32) to it, then added (1/C) to produce the typical shapeless, debris-filled parent fractal that results when two negative powers of Z are combined.   The actual location of the image is near the southern perimeter of its parent, a short distance inland, not too far from a larger midget.

The image reminds me of something like a pot of boiling corn starch, which inspired the not-too-classy and not-totally-gramatically-correct name "Burbling Burbles".   Then, when I saw what I had done, I rated the whole thing at a 6, giving myself a one-point benefit of the doubt.

The relatively harmless image was rendered with the outside set to 'tdis'.   I did not try 'evaporating' it to see what this would produce.   But one thing certain is that the short render time of 2-1/2 minutes on my 10-year-old P200 machine results in an overall value of 234, which takes us right back to the original formula.

For convenience, the completed image is available on the FOTD web site at:

Conditions were near perfect here at Fractal Central on Friday.   The cats thoroughly enjoyed the sunny skies, light winds, and temperature of 77F 25C.   At one point a stray tomcat wandered into the yard.   Tippy leaped to confront him, but after a few cat curse words, the other cat slinked off, and no blows were struck.   The duo finished the afternoon peacefully.

I have a bit of work to finish.   Then I might tackle the fractal lawn, which has grown about 1/2 meter in the past week.   When all this is finished, I will think of fractals.   Until next FOTD, take care, and check out those ray-traced fractals.
