FOTD -- February 17, 2003   (Rating 4)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

I enjoy shoveling snow, but this is ridiculous.   Once again, due to an immense quantity of snow that must be moved, the discussion will be very brief.

Today's hastily achieved fractal can rate only a 4, but that is only a little below average.   The parent fractal, whose formula is Z^1.19+C, resembles a double-lobed lake, with an immense filament extending to the SW, far beyond the borders of the default screen, which BTW has a magnitude of 2/3.

Today's scene is located near the tip of this curved filament.   I have no idea how I found the mis-shapen minibrot on this totally chaotic filament.   I guess I have developed a fractal sixth sense, or more accurately a seventh sense, since I already have precognition.   (No, I cannot turn it on at will.)

The name, "Theme and Variations", was inspired by the melange of incongruous features that make up the image.   Then again, perhaps I should have named the image simply "Variations", since there is no single theme that unifies it.

The parameter file runs in 8 minutes.   The completed GIF image is available for download on the W.W.Web at:

Heavy snow fell all day Sunday here at Fractal Central.   This, plus the temperature of 14F -10C, swept all thoughts of the outdoors from the minds of the fractal duo, who spent the day sleeping where it was warm.   This morning the snow is still falling.   Since the snow on the ground is about three times as deep as the cats are tall, they had best resign themselves to a long confinement.   As for me, I've got a lot of shoveling to do, and there is no time like the present to get started.

Until tomorrow's FOTD, take care, and, if I get myself dug out of the snow drift, see you then.
