FOTD -- December 16, 2002   (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

I have long suspected that the <fmod> fill has more potential than a hasty trial would indicate.   Yesterday, I found that this is indeed true.   I named today's image "The FMOD Fill Wins", because I feel that it reveals the full potential of the <fmod> inside fill, which I expect to be using more of in the future.

With no inside fill, the parent fractal of today's image would be a circle with a totally blank and empty interior, and today's image itself, which consists entirely of trapped inside points, would show nothing more than a flat black screen.

Another big contributor to the unusual effects seen in today's image is the <cosxx> function, which is actually an old mistake retained for compatibility.   The final contributor is my Mystic2 formula.   I wrote this formula a number of years ago for some reason which I have long ago forgotten.   It draws nothing but empty circles unless a non-flat inside fill is applied.

Because it is different, I have rated today's image at a 7.   If I had found more time to color it, I might have found a palette that raised the image to an 8.   The 11-minute render time is a bit slow, but a download of the completed image from:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html
or from:
http://sdboyd.dyndns.org/~sdboyd/fotd/
can shorten the wait.

Sunday turned out to be the warmest day of the month, with a temperature of 50F 10C.   This was just what the dynamic fractal duo needed to give them the pleasant day outdoors that restored their kittenish good humors.

But today is much colder, so I wonder how long those good humors will last.   My humor is not too bad, but will improve still more when the work is finished.   Until next FOTD, take care, and be mod.
