FOTD -- December 15, 2002   (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

I rather admire today's image, with its elements half obscured by illuminated haze.   It reminds me of one of those nebulas in space, where stars are being born.   Because of this resemblance, I named the image "Midget in a Nebula" and rated it at a 7, a rating that, in my opinion at least, is fully justified.

Yes, I realize that December was supposed to be a month without a quadratic midget.   So I lied -- so what!   Today's image is a good fractal, one well worth having the honor of FOTD bestowed upon it.

Most of the image consists of bof60 inside fill.   The generating expression combines various portions of Z^(1.8), Z^(-0.8), Z, and Z^(0.8) before adding 1/C.   The work was done by my unused MandelbrotMix3 formula, which combines 4 different powers of Z but leaves it to the fractalist to work out a critical point to enter as the real(p5) parameter.   Because of the work involved, and because the images are not that much better than those created by the M-Mix4 formula, I rarely use the M-Mix3 formula.

The render time of 17 minutes is a bit slow.   Time may be saved by downloading the finished image from:

Saturday was blustery here at F.C., but there was enough sun to warm it to 47F 8C, which pleased the fractal cats, who managed to enjoy an hour of yard time chasing the few sunbeams that filtered through the holly trees.   A treat of chicken in the evening completed a pleasant day for the fractal duo.

Well, I made it through yesterday's shopping, and I'll likely make it through today's also.   Then, when the day is done, I'll concentrate on the next FOTD.   Until tomorrow, take care, and when is a fractal not a fractal?
