Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

The formula of today's image takes 0.2 parts of Z^(-3.16227766), which is the square root of 10, and adds it to three times as much Z^(-0.316227766), which is 1/10th of the first number and also its reciprocal.   The resulting fractal is a bloated, vaguely Mandel-shaped thing with a double valley on the west side and a smoothly curved shoreline on the east side.   Two full out-zooms are needed to see the entire fractal.   The only real area of interest is the vicinity of the double valley, and today's image is located a short distance inland from the southern shoreline of this valley.

I named the image "Gold Necklace", mostly because I could think of nothing better.   The name is not totally frivolous however, because the effect of the intricate gold filaments against a dull blue background does vaguely suggest a gold chain.

In my opinion, the image rates a 6, which is not great, but keeps my (IMO) long string of above-average images intact.   And the render time of 5 minutes is just within the bounds of reason.   An even faster way of seeing the image is to go to Paul's web site at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html
or Scott's site at:
http://sdboyd.dyndns.org/~sdboyd/fotd/
and download the completed GIF image from there.

The weather here at Fractal Central on Friday was variable.   The day started chilly and foggy, but in the early afternoon the fog lifted, the clouds broke, and the temperature rose into the low 80'sF, or around 28C.   Unfortunately, the extreme humidity made for rather oppressive conditions.   Not enjoying humidity, and being especially adverse to wet grass, the fractal cats spent the afternoon in their porch chairs, avoiding the condensation on the still-cold concrete floor.   In the evening, a short but intense shower passed over, which ended the day with a bang and sent the cats scurrying indoors.

And I had better scurry if I want to put the little bit of work now on my desk behind me.   But never fear, for though I leave now, I shall return in two days, on the 30th, with a new and hopefully improved FOTD image.   Until then, take care, and be of stout mind but lean heart.
