Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- December 30, 2001   (Rating 6)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

I'm feeling a bit out-of-sorts this evening, so I'll cut the discussion short.

The broad fiery arms surrounding the midget in today's image inspired the name "Fractal Firestorm".   The formula behind the image combines various portions of 1/Z and Z^(-13), then turns the inside-out parent fractal rightside-out by adding 1/C instead of C.

The scene, which features a dark-red disk edged with yellow and a midget that needs a few more iterations, is located in a valley of its parent fractal.

I have rated the image a conservative 6, though it is perilously close to a rating of 7.   The parameter file renders the image in 2/100 second less than 1 minute on my machine.   On a state-of-the-art unit, it will render in far less time.

Those who dislike rendering may download the pre-rendered GIF image from Paul's web site at:

The fractal weather today here at Fractal Central was mostly cloudy, with a few flurries of snow in the afternoon.   It was the first snow of the season, and not at all welcomed by the fractal cats, who spent the day by the radiators, hiding from the 36F 2C temperatures outdoors.

I'm now going to spend the little that remains of the evening watching a junky old sci-fi movie.   The next fractal will arrive in 24 or 36 hours, depending on how I feel.   Until then, take care, and be true to your fractals.
