Fractal of the Day

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's fractal lies at the very edge of resolution, so close in fact that to make the parameter file draw the proper image, I needed to insert a <mathtolerance=/1> command into it by hand. The image was created by the simple formula 100(Z^6)+(Z^2)+C, which was iterated up to 700 times for each pixel. The parent fractal resembles a 2-headed Mandeloid which is not quite critical. Today's scene is located on a filament of a largermidget, which in turn is located on a still larger filament extending from one of the two large eastern bays. There is a hysterical air to the entire scene, which consists of twisted and tortured filaments. The name "Fractured Hysteria" was inspired by this hysteric appearance. The name is not a sign that I am hysterical. Though the parameter file renders in almost exactly 5 minutes on a tired old Pentium 200mhz machine, the best and most convenient way of viewing the image is to give Paul and Scott a chance to render it and post it to their web sites at: The fractal weather today was a bit more humid, but still very pleasant, with a temperature of 81F 27C. Needing little to satisfy them, the fractal cats lounged most of the day in the porch chair, watching the birds fly by. When one careless bird wandered a bit too close, Tippy chattered and thrashed his tail at it. Of course, the chattering chased the bird off. The fractal cats seem to be losing their natural instincts for catching their own food. I have many philosophical and paranormal things yet to discuss, and these will be discussed. But before speaking, I must spend some time reading the newsgroups where these things are now being debated, so that I correctly understand the differing views of the various groups, and do not mis-represent anyone's view. At the present time, I am dis-satisfied with both the Atheistic response to the situation, and the response of conventional religion. Knowing that it would be unacceptably cruel at a time like this to say that there is no hope, Atheists can do nothing to bring consolation, and must remain in the background. Conventional myth-based religions say all the right words, but there is no firm evidence that their consoling words have any basis in reality. Too many people no longer believe the myths. There is a third approach to the situation however, the approach hinted at by the reports of impossible paranormal things that happened in the days immediately preceding the disaster. One of these impossible things happened to me. It happened seven times. My present words are only an anecdote, but I know for certain that it did happen. And if it happened to me, in all probability a good number of the other reports of the same thing are true also. And if this one paranormal thing is true, how many of the other so-called paranormal phenomena might also be true? Things are becoming very interesting indeed. In the weeks to come, I will tell of how I became convinced that the paranormal does indeed exist. If my conclusions violate the principles of logic and reason, so much the worse for logic and reason. The paranormal is apparently illogical by nature. And I will freely admit that I have always hoped that something such as this would happen to me. As for right now, I'm going to get at least a little work done. Maybe I'll finish before sunset. Until next time, take care, and beware. Jim Muth jamth@mindspring.com |
