FOTD -- September 28, 2000   (Rating 6)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's fractal is truly different.   It has none of the intricacy that surrounds the usual midgets.   It has instead a smoothness that is rarely seen in the world of fractals.   The obvious sine-wave shape inspired the name; the rating of 6 is my own decision.

The object in the image is the 'Seahorse Valley' of the (-Z)^1.1+C Mandeloid, viewed from an oblique orientation closest to the Elliptic direction.   The new formula, multirot-XZ-YW-min, is a generalized version of the old multirot-XZ-YW, which calculates (-Z) and takes advantage of the additional variable parameter entries.

With a render time of a little under 3 minutes, the parameter file is slightly slow -- just slow enough to make a download of the GIF image the better choice.   The download may be found on Usenet at:

The fractal weather today was near perfect, with total sunshine and a temperature of 69F (20.5C), which was completely perfect for the fractal cats.   It was unfortunate for the cats that I had so little time to let them run free, but they thoroughly enjoyed themselves in the little time they did have outdoors.

The fractosophy continued simmering, and will not be fully cooked until sometime next week.   For now, it's time to shut the place down and call it a night.   Until tomorrow, take care, and a sine wave is a sine wave.
