Fractal of the Day

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Let me begin with a thank you to those who welcomed me back from my vacation trip. As vacation trips usually are, this one was almost as hectic as it was relaxing, but it was good to spend a week without having to turn on a computer. Now as for today's fractal picture . . . The network of filaments surrounding today's gaudy red midget reminds me of a ring of herring-bones. When I noticed the resemblance, the name "Herringbone Midget" came naturally. The scene is located near a shoreline of the newest 'parent' fractal, about halfway inland to a lake, in an area that appears non-critical and therefore unlikely to hold midgets. But in the world of the MandelbrotMix4 formula, midgets sometimes appear where least expected, and I'm learning to look deeper into areas where at first no midgets seem to exist. The parameter file of the picture renders in 8-1/2 minutes once the file is installed in your Fractint directory and rendering begun. The GIF image file downloads in less than 1 minute once one of the sites is contacted. Those sites are on the Usenet network at: The fractal weather today was despicable for cats who enjoy the outdoors. A steady soaking rain and temperature of 55F (13C) kept the fractal cats snug indoors, where they passed the day on their shelf by the window, watching the water and wishing the rain would stop. It never did. I have much philosophy backed up, but no time to organize it. Since I'll be busy the rest of this week getting the restless customers satisfied, it will likely be October before the next philosophical outburst strikes. But given enough time, it will strike, so keep posted to see what trouble I get myself into. For now, it's shut-down-and-good-night time at the olde fractal shoppe.
